Team Girl Comic is an indie all-women comics anthology. We support and encourage women at all levels of experience to create and publish comics. A lot of our creators are new to comics in general. We love bringing new people to the medium and letting them discover their voice. It’s been great to see the number of contributes grow with every issue. So far, we’ve published 4 issues under our own steam, but want to be able to grow and become more sustainable. Right now, we’re running a kickstarter to fund our 5th issue. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/teamgirlcomic/team-girl-comic We’ve gotten some great support, with plugs from comics pros like David Mack, Ben Templesmith, Mark Millar, as well as Forbidden Planet’s blog, Traveling Man Comics, Khepri Comics, Thought Bubble, Manda Rin from the band Bis, actor Robert Florence, photographer Kyle Cassidy, and backing from comics writers Mike Carey, and Brian Wood. In 5 days, we reached our goal of $1000, to fund our print run. We’ve been amazed and humbled by all the support.
So what more could we want? Now, we’re hoping to get enough funding to print back issues that have sold out, and pay for conventions. We’ve been to Thought Bubble, Glasgow Comic Con, London’s Small Press Expo, Hi-Ex in Inverness, and others. Travel and tables are expensive, and we often end up out of pocket, but it’s a great way to meet fans as well as possible new contributors. If we want greater involvement from women across the UK, we need to get out there so more people know about us and that we want to hear from them.
